What would be your top three priorities, if elected?
Improve Workforce Training Programs - Provide a pipeline of students from the classroom to the job site, ready for work through skilled labor training programs. Support Our Military - Ensure we have the best schools, safe communities, parks, and recreation facilities so military members want to live in our great city with their families. We must also take a look at exempting active duty military members from paying state income tax when serving overseas. Strengthen Our Schools - Ensure our schools have the resources, technology and equipment needed to help Alabama students achieve success. Invest in early childhood education, restore local decision making, and increase wages for teachers.
What areas of public policy are you personally passionate about?
I am personally passionate about public education, our military and economic development. I was a product of the public schools and believe that a strong educational foundation is necessary to provide every child with the opportunity to be successful in life. If not for our military men and women our country could be very different than it is today, we owe it to them to ensure they are taken care of and receive the benefits they deserve. We have a growing economy and as technology changes we must embrace it and create opportunities for growth in Alabama and the creation of high-quality, good-paying jobs for our citizens.
What characteristics or principles are most important for an elected official?
An elected official must hold themselves to high ethical standards and be above reproach. They must present themselves professionally in all aspects of their life. They also must be approachable and accessible to their constituents and those seeking to inform them on legislation.
What qualities do you possess that you believe would make you a successful officeholder?
I take a methodical approach to legislation. I look at both sides of the argument and seek input from those that bills would affect. I will not make a quick judgement on legislation but give it thoughtful consideration. I will take into consideration how it affects District 74 first and foremost and then the state as a whole. I will depend on the people of District 74 to tell me how they feel about each piece of legislation.
Do you believe that it’s beneficial for state legislators to have previous experience in government or politics?
I believe that it is important for incoming legislators to have knowledge of the policy issues and the legislative process. I also believe that, no matter their experience, a legislator must represent the citizens of their district above all else.
