Candidate Connection

Nancy L. Franke participated in Ballotpedia's candidate survey on March 27, 2018. The survey questions appear in bold, and Nancy L. Franke's responses follow below.[7]

What would be your top three priorities, if elected?

1) Education Issues

2) Opioid & Addiction Epidemic in our communities
3) Strengthening Indiana Workforce Development[8][9]

What areas of public policy are you personally passionate about? Why?

1. Going into the 2019 session means working on our budget. I want to keep our state fiscally sound, keep tax rates low, and still create a budget that provides the basic necessities to operate as a functioning body. 2. Education Reform efforts have been rather hit-or-miss. I want to provide a perspective from the front line of education as we address issues and create policies. 3. Indiana is one of the top states in the manufacturing industry. We need to work to bring more workers to the forefront of providing the necessary skilled workforce.Cite error: Invalid <ref> tag; invalid names, e.g. too many[9]

Ballotpedia also asked the candidate a series of optional questions. Nancy L. Franke answered the following:

Is there a particular legislator, past or present, whom you want to model yourself after?

As a member of the Lugar Series, I have admired Senator Richard Lugar even more over time. He is a true statesman, a class-act, and knows how to portray professionalism and civility as he works with others, reaches across the aisle, and builds a foundation where others can partner together and build from. I want to bring that type of attribute to the house seat of District 69.[9]
Are you interested in running for a different political office (for example, the U.S. Congress or governor) in the future?
My heart is for serving people where they are and to work towards meeting the needs to improve the lives of others and our community. I never thought of "running for political office." Even though I have served in a "political office" as a trustee on the school board, I see it much more as serving than public than anything else. My run for state representative reflects the very same attitude. I am running because I believe a need has not been met for the People and I want to work to help them in this capacity. I do not see myself in a different political office in the future...if I state that I have the "political bug" and want to climb the political ladder, then PLEASE, someone stop me! THAT is not what I would want in any leadership serving their constituents, and would not want that to be a part of my character, as well.[9]

2016

Franke issued the following statement regarding her bid for office:

NOW IS THE TIME TO BE HEARD! As complex issues change the face of national politics, District 69 must have a representative who speaks with the voice of the people. It is time to renew the interests of this district and to safeguard our own Hoosier values while promoting fiscal responsibility and economic opportunity.

As 2016 will be the year of change, it is essential that your voice is clearly heard as we navigate critical areas including tax reform, protection for our senior citizens, services for our veterans, and safe, high- quality schools for our children. Most importantly, I stand ready to listen, to reflect, and to consistently represent the views of my constituents.

More than two decades as a resident of District 69 have engendered a passion for serving this community. It has been my great pleasure to serve on the Seymour Board of Trustees for almost six years. With my family's support and my community's best interest foremost in my mind, it is now time to consider service as the State Representative for District 69.[9]
