Steve Schoettmer participated in Ballotpedia's candidate survey on April 7, 2018. The survey questions appear in bold, and Steve Schoettmer's responses follow below.[1]
What would be your top three priorities, if elected?
| “ | 1) Healthcare |
” |
What areas of public policy are you personally passionate about? Why?
| “ | HIP-2 (Medicaide Expansion). My girlfriend died last year from colon cancer. For the last few years of her life she had to go on disability. Because she only received $750/month in disability, she qualified for Medicaid and Medicare. Those two services covered all most all of her medical expenses. She wasn’t chased by doctor bills or collection agencies. She only had to concentrate on trying to get better. However, the republicans kept on trying to repeal Medicaid expansion. She was so afraid she would show up at the doctors office one day and they would turn her away because it’s government would turn its back on her. People shouldn’t be afraid of their government.Cite error: Invalid <ref> tag; invalid names, e.g. too many[3]

Ballotpedia also asked the candidate a series of optional questions. Steve Schoettmer answered the following:
What is the first historical event that happened in your lifetime that you remember? How old were you at the time?
| “ | The association of John F Kennedy. I was about 8 years old.[3] | ” |
| “ | With the republican super majority passing right to work laws and the repealing the common construction wage in Indiana, HOOSIER wages are crushed. Real percapita income is $212 below what it was in $2005. We have to find ways to put upward pressure on wages so that everyone can benefit free m the rewards of their hard work.[3] | ” |
| “ | Lee Hamilton. Though he was actually in congress and not the Infiana Legislature, he was deeply loved by his constituency.[3] | ” |
| “ | No.[3] | ” |
| “ | I have talked to so many people who are elderly or sick. They are on Medicaid or Medicare and they are simply existing on the very edge of life. I sense their feeling of fear and of being marginalized. Of simply not mattering... people, all people, should matter to their government.[3] | ” |
