The signature filing deadline for candidates wishing to run in this election was June 20, 2014. Steve Sarnoff defeated Thomas D. Ryan and Shawna Vercher in the Democratic primary, while Christopher Latvala defeated Christopher Shepard in the Republican primary. Latvala defeated Sarnoff in the general election.[3][4]
