Joseph Ditkoff is an associate justice on the Massachusetts Appeals Court, the intermediate appellate court for the state of Massachusetts. He was appointed to this court in March 2017 by Republican Governor Charlie Baker to succeed retired Justice Cynthia Cohen.[1][2] He was confirmed by the Massachusetts Governor's Council on April 19, 2017.
Ditkoff previously served as general counsel to the Massachusetts District Courts.[1]
Education
Ditkoff received his bachelor's degree cum laude from Yale University in 1993 and his J.D. magna cum laude from Harvard Law School in 1996.[1]
Career
Ditkoff began his legal career as a judicial clerk to Judge Jerry E. Smith of the United States Court of Appeals for the 5th Circuit in Houston, Texas. He then served as litigation chairman in the Office of Independent Counsel in Washington, DC, under Kenneth Starr, from 1998 to 1999. He worked on that office's investigation of President Bill Clinton.[2] After that, he served in the prosecutor's office of Suffolk County, starting as an assistant district attorney and then becoming deputy legal counsel to the district attorney, in which position he served from 2003 to 2014.[1] He also is an elected member of the Town Meeting in Brookline, Massachusetts.[2]
