Guadalupe "Lupe" Rivera was a justice on the Texas Eighth District Court of Appeals. She was elected to this position on November 4, 2008 and took office on December 1, 2008.[1] She was re-elected on November 6, 2012 to a term that would have expired on December 31, 2018.[2][3] She retired in August 2014.[4]

Education

Rivera received her undergraduate degree from the University of Texas at El Paso and her J.D. from the University of Texas School of Law in 1981.[1]

Career

Rivera began her legal career as an assistant district attorney for the 34th Judicial District. She became a judge in 1985, when she was appointed court master for the El Paso district courts. She judged family law cases and was also appointed a criminal law magistrate. She was elected to the 168th District Court in 1990 and held this position until her election to the Court of Appeals in 2008.[1]

Rivera ran unopposed in the general election on November 6, 2012 and was re-elected with 100 percent of the vote.[5] [6][3]
