A New Hampshire native, born in Manchester to a WW II and Korean War vet. Am now living in Auburn, NH with wife Wendy and daughter Amanda as we are 47 year residents. Graduated from Keene State College (NH) with a B. Ed. and received a M. of A. in History from UNH. Prior to going to college, was in the US Navy (USS Okinawa - LPH 3) and was a creative member during te blockade or quarantine of Cuba during the Missile Crisis. After receiving my degrees, I taught for 32 years at Manchester, NH Central High School. I later joined Veterans for Peace and became the Coordinator NH's chapter for 25 years. I was also an active member of my local education association, the Manchester Education Association and also of the state-wide National Education Association.I was honored to receive the State NEA-NH Human and Civil Rights Award. In addition, I served for32 years on the NH Martin Luther King Coalition which sponsored an annual celebration of the life of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Moreover, I also joined the MLK Day Committee which lobbied for the passage of a NH billhooring Dr. King's life that eventually did pass.
  • First, I will advocate for healthcare that should be affordable and accessible to all people. I feel that every person deserves the opportunity to be healthy and to receive the necessary care and/or medicine without sacrificing basic needs.
  • As a retired public school teacher, I strongly support public schools that should provide children with a safe environment to learn how to become responsible, prepared community members. I believe in public education whee diversity and inclusion are respected and supported. Many of us know that teachers are professionals who deserve adequate resources and support systems to best prepare our students for their futures.
  • As a young man, I did go hunting with my father. He and I support the Second Amendment. Yet, after he passed away, I saw the rise in school shootings and the use by guns of suicides. It was-apparent that there had to be a new emphasis on ensuring safe and responsible gun ownership. Moreover, some may recall that the federal government did pass a ban on the sale of military-style assault weapons which do not belong in the hands of the general public (nor the "bump" stocks and high-caliber magazines). Red flag laws make common sense to me, and I would sponsor a bill relating to that issue.
Education. Education. Personally, I would sponsor a bill to repeal the so-called "Education Freedom Accounts" law which is siphoning away from support for public schools. Some of NH's legislators refer to public schools as "government schools" where young people are continually indoctrinated with ideas of "socialism," forgetting that our own military and its Veterans Administration Health Centers/Hospitals are prime examples of"Socialism" as are Social Security and Medicare!
My initial job, as a teen, was working at an ice cream stand-- making sundaes, frappes, hamburgers, etc.!
