Michael White is a U.S. Army veteran, community leader, and educator with more than 20 years of experience supporting working families through leadership development, civic engagement, and community-based service. He is the Democratic candidate for Michigan State Senate in District 15, representing Washtenaw, Lenawee, and Monroe counties. White currently serves as an elected Ypsilanti Township Delegate (2024) and holds leadership roles across the region, including President of Educate Youth, President of the Ford Lake Village Property Owners Association, and Vice President of the Washtenaw County Black Caucus. He is also a member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc., Ann Arbor–Ypsilanti–Inkster Alumni Chapter, where he has served as Chair of the Political and Social Action Committee for the past 10 years. Professionally, White spent 20 years in corporate leadership at AT&T, focusing on workforce development, training, and performance improvement. He earned a Bachelor’s degree from Eastern Michigan University, a Master’s degree in Leadership/Organizational Development, and a Doctorate in Educational Technology. White’s public service focuses on strengthening economic opportunity, improving education and workforce pathways, expanding access to healthcare, and building safer, more stable communities.
  • I’m running for State Senate to deliver real progress for real people, not politics as usual. Families in our district are working harder than ever, yet still struggling with rising costs, housing pressure, and unequal opportunity. I’m a veteran, community leader, and organizer who believes government should be accountable, practical, and people-centered. My mission is simple: make Michigan affordable, safe, and full of opportunity, no matter your ZIP code.
  • Michigan can lead the nation in innovation and economic growth, but only if everyone can participate. I will fight for good-paying jobs, workforce development, strong public schools, and small business growth, while ensuring corporate incentives come with real community benefits such as local hiring and fair wages. We can build an economy where people don’t have to leave Michigan to build a future and where opportunity is a promise paid forward, not a privilege passed down.
  • I believe representation is about results. Our region cannot thrive while we rank last in income inequality and economic segregation. I will push policies that expand affordable housing, strengthen healthcare access, protect voting rights, and improve public safety with smart, proven solutions. This campaign is about building a coalition across race, class, and geography because when we come together with purpose, we don’t just win elections, we change outcomes.
I’m most passionate about economic mobility, education and workforce pipelines, affordable housing, healthcare access (including mental health), voting rights, and community safety. I care deeply about closing opportunity gaps, supporting working families and seniors, and ensuring every community, urban, suburban, and rural, has a fair shot at stability and success.

2016

White's campaign website highlighted the following issues:[5]

Public safety

  • Excerpt: "Michael supports positive crime prevention activities as a way to address crime. Believing that young people can benefit from structured and supervised activities, Michael will continue his support of creating a community recreation center in West Willow. Such a center can be the hub for fun and safe family events. It can be the place to bring resources for families and it can provide an easily accessible place for career training and employment recruitment."

Economic development

  • Excerpt: "Michael believes that regional public transportation is not only a possibility, it is an economic necessity. He will work to make this a reality."

Education

  • Excerpt: "Michael will fight to return millions of dollars stripped away from our traditional public education. While fully supportive of our preK-16 programs, he will push to restore funding and respect for other educational programs, like skilled trades apprenticeship programs."
