Hollings issued the following statement regarding her bid for office:

I began my run for office because my opponent sponsored the Religious Freedom Restoration Act (RFRA), which has cost this state $250 million dollars in lost revenue and was written with the intent to discriminate against LGBT individuals. I cannot stand those who discriminate or those who would condone such actions. I knew that it would not change unless good people stood up and ran for office. I hope to serve the people of Indiana to the best of my ability, working on funding public education, protecting the environment, fixing our infrastructure, and caring for our veterans.
