Angel Cortiñas
Angel A. Cortiñas was a judge on the Florida Third District Court of Appeal. He was appointed to this position in 2005.[1] He was retained by voters in 2006 and 2012.[2][3] He retired from the court on August 1, 2013.[4]
Education
Angel Cortiñas graduated from Brown University in 1984 and went on to receive his J.D. from Harvard Law School in 1987.[1]
Career
Angel Cortiñas began his legal career in 1987 as a law clerk for William Hoeveler of the United States District Court for the Southern District of Florida. After one year, he became an associate at the law firm of Steel, Hector and Davis until 1990. He then became an assistant U.S. attorney working in the areas of Public Corruption, Economic Crimes, Environmental Crimes and Appellate Sections. In 1994, he left this position to work as a partner in the law firm of Lehtinen, O’Donnell, Cortiñas, Vargas and Reiner. A year later, he returned to the position of assistant U.S. attorney. In 2003, he began working for the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Florida, where he served as chief of the Economic Crimes Section. He held this position until his appointment to the Court of Appeal in 2005.[1]
2012 election
Cortiñas was retained on November 6, 2012 with 77.1 percent of the vote.[5][3][6]

86% of Florida lawyers polled by the state Bar were in favor of Cortiñas' retention.[7]
