Expand all | Collapse all

Darryl W. Perry has spent most of his adult life as an advocate & activist for peace and liberty.

As a Presidential candidate in 2016, he had a goal to run the most libertarian presidential campaign in history, to promote the ideas of liberty as boldly and as often as possible, and to give as many people as possible the chance to vote for an actual libertarian in November 2016. After the Libertarian National Convention - where he placed 4th for the LP Presidential nomination - Perry formed a crowd-funded public-interest lobbyist firm, to lobby the New Hampshire Legislature in support of individual rights, minimal government and maximum freedom!

Darryl served as Chair of the Libertarian Party of New Hampshire from September 2016 until April 2018.

He ran the 2018 NYC Marathon on Team Innocence Project, and was to be a charity runner for Ronald McDonald's House Charities in the 2019 Chicago Marathon before being forced to withdraw in order to recover from a concussion.

Darryl W. Perry is running for Governor of New Hampshire as a Libertarian on a platform of criminal justice reform, lower taxation, and ballot access reform & voting rights.
Criminal Justice Reform: New Hampshire remains an "island of prohibition" as it relates to cannabis. Depenalization would remove all civil penalties as well, thus being better from the standpoint of human freedom than decriminalization.

The Drug War is just one part of the Criminal Justice System that is in need of reform. The current system is punitive and relies heavily on plea bargains. NHPR reports "something like 98 percent of convictions are obtained through plea bargains." In many criminal cases where a defendant refuses a plea, they generally receive a stiffer sentence than they were offered prior to trial. Additionally nearly 1 in 5 people who plead guilty are actually innocent. There's also the problem of laws that criminalize consensual behavior (gambling, polygamy, sex work, etc).

Ballot Access & Voting Rights

Part 1 Article 11 of the NH Constitution states, in part, "All elections are to be free, and every inhabitant of the state of 18 years of age and upwards shall have an equal right to vote in any election.... Every inhabitant of the state, having the proper qualifications, has equal right to be elected into office." Current law in New Hampshire makes it difficult for candidates outside of a qualified party to be placed on the ballot. And despite claims by some that only residents of NH are able to vote, "domicile' not 'residency' is the criteria needing to be met to be qualified to vote in NH.
I'd suggest either The Law by Frédéric Bastiat, or Short Answers to the Tough Questions by Dr. Mary Ruwart
I worked to make the world a better and more free
I vaguely recall the 1984 Presidential election. The first major event that I vividly recall would be the Challenger explosion, which I watched live during 2nd Grade.
When I was young, before even entering 1st Grade, I worked at my dad's concession stand at East Lake Park in Birmingham, AL.
Being responsible for protecting the individual rights of inhabitants, and ensuring fiscal responsibility of the state government.
The New Hampshire Governor is fairly weak, and in most cases need the consent of the Executive Council. The Governor is solely responsible for the faithful execution of the law, and state agencies work under the direction of the Governor.
The New Hampshire Budget is a three phase process that begins with state agencies submitting requests to the Department of Administrative Services' Budget Office. Since the Governor should ensure fiscal responsibility of the state government, I believe the Governor should only submit a budget to the Legislature that does not rely on increases in tax rates or fees.
The Governor shouldn't intimidate the legislature into action or inaction. The Governor should however ask members of the Legislature to consider legislation that it part of the Governor's agenda.
The greatest challenge is maintaining the NH Advantage, while also trying to rein in rising property taxes.
