Jesse Bohannon (Republican Party) ran for election to the Indiana House of Representatives to represent District 17. Bohannon lost in the Republican primary on May 8, 2018.

Bohannon was also a 2016 Republican candidate for District 17 of the Indiana House of Representatives.[1]

Bohannon's website highlighted the following campaign themes:[2]

Life:

  • Excerpt: "No issue is more important than life. I find the requirement to defend life in the Declaration of Independence and frame that defense around the Fourteenth Amendment. Life begins at fertilization, and United States government must not deprive any human being life, liberty, or property without due process of law; nor deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws - regardless of age, genetic information, disability, power or lack thereof. As a matter of self-evident principle, the right to life, along with our other unalienable rights, is based not on human choice, but on the unchanging character of our creator."

Liberty:

  • Excerpt: "American self-government is grounded in the understanding that all people are created equal and that God has created us with rights that government has no authority to take away. I will work tirelessly to ensure that government at all levels respects the rights of every Hoosier."

Education:

  • Excerpt: "Parents have a God-given right and responsibility to direct the moral and educational upbringing of their children; therefore educational decisions are best left to parents. I will work to empower parents to make the best choice for each child."

Jobs and the Economy:

  • Excerpt: "Government does not create wealth or prosperity. But restrictive regulations and over-taxation can destroy them. I support simplifying tax and regulatory policy to make Indiana the most attractive state in the nation to start a business and hire workers."

Taxes:

  • Excerpt: "I will not vote for a net tax and fee increase. The job of legislators is to set priorities and we cannot continue to add to taxpayers' burden to support an endless stream of new, good ideas. Taxes and fees should be transparent, simple and connected as closely as possible with the services they support. People should pay for the services they use, and the tax code should not be used to redistribute wealth or favor the powerful."

Law Enforcement:

  • Excerpt: "...I will work to empower local law enforcement - especially elected sheriffs - making sure they have the resources they need to protect their communities. I will resist militarization of law enforcement and collaborate with local police and prosecutors to make sure our laws are accomplishing what they intend. I will look whenever possible to streamline and shrink the criminal code - helping to make it easier for average citizens to know and understand."
