Candidate Connection

Joseph Lannan participated in Ballotpedia's candidate survey on April 6, 2018. The survey questions appear in bold, and Joseph Lannan's responses follow below.[1]

What would be your top three priorities, if elected?

1) K-12 Education

2) Local Voice and Control
3) Regional Approach to Issues[2][3]

What areas of public policy are you personally passionate about? Why?

I am most passionate about supporting quality K-12 public education initiatives, and providing and maintaining local control of communities, schools, and decision making-wherever possible. I believe the role of our state government is to provide opportunities for our local communities, schools, and businesses to thrive. Our lawmakers must serve as guides, facilitators, and representatives for this to happen. Best decisions for our towns, counties, and regions, are most often made WITHIN said towns, counties, and regions, not in Indianapolis. For us to solve complex issues surrounding local school budgeting, our students being prepared for the region's current and future career demands, and the opioid and methamphetamine addiction issues surrounding our communities, we must have the right stakeholders sitting at the right tables. We must come together, and highlight our own individual strengths and experiences to work toward addressing these issues. We must seek common ground, and avoid our differences to work toward solving the actual issues. I am seeking office, not because I have an answer to any of these topics, but rather because I have a desire to represent these and the other needs of our neighbors in our statehouse. I hope to use the platform as the district's representative to gather the much needed resources and stakeholders together to address pressing issues. I am running to be the "common voice for common ground."Cite error: Invalid <ref> tag; invalid names, e.g. too many[3]
