Themis N. Karnezis was a judge on the Illinois First District Appellate Court. He was assigned to this position in March of 2002, and after being retained by voters three times (in 2002,[1] 2008[2] and 2014[3]) he retired on July 31, 2015.[4][5]

Karnezis was retained to the Cook Judicial Circuit Court with 72.0 percent of the vote on November 4, 2014. [3] 

Evaluations

The Illinois State Bar Association rated Themis Karnezis as Recommended for retention in 2014.[6]

Education

Judge Karnezis earned his B.S. in chemical engineering from the University of Detroit and his J.D. from the John Marshall School of Law. In 1970, he was admitted to the Illinois Bar.[4]

Career

Judge Karnezis began his legal career in 1970 as an assistant state's attorney in Cook County. In 1974, he began working as a private practice lawyer. He was appointed a Cook County associate judge in June of 1982 and was promoted to circuit judge in 1989. He was retained to this position by voters in 1990. He was involved in the Criminal Division of this court for sixteen years. He also served on the Law Jury Division and as the presiding judge of the Fourth Municipal District before he was assigned to the appellate court in March of 2002.[4]
