Mackey Hancock was a justice on the Texas Seventh District Court of Appeals. He began serving in that position on July 8, 2005,[1] and he was re-elected on November 6, 2012, for a term that would have expired on December 31, 2018.[2][3] He retired from the bench in December 2016.[4]

Education

Justice Hancock received his bachelor's degree from Texas Tech University in 1971 and his J.D. from Texas Tech University School of Law in 1974.[1]

Career

Justice Hancock began his law career as an assistant criminal district attorney for Lubbock County from 1974 to 1976. He then worked in private practice from 1976 to 1984 and as vice president/general counsel for NTS Communications, Inc. from 1986 to 1988.

He took the bench as the presiding judge for the County Court at Law #3 in Lubbock County from 1989 to 1994. He was later a presiding judge in the 99th District Court from 1994 until 2005, when he joined the Court of Appeals.[1]

Memberships

Justice Hancock was president of the Lubbock County Bar Association from 1994 to 1995.[1]

Hancock ran unopposed in the general election on November 6, 2012 and was re-elected with 100% of the vote.[5] [6][3]
