Desmarais ran in the 2012 election for New Hampshire House of Representatives. Desmarais was defeated by incumbent Franklin Sterling in the September 11 Republican primary election for Cheshire 14. He was later added to the general election ballot in Cheshire 9. Desmarais was defeated in the general election, which took place on November 6, 2012.
