Stephen Shurtleff (Democratic Party) was a member of the New Hampshire House of Representatives, representing Merrimack 15. He assumed office on December 7, 2022. He left office on December 4, 2024.

Shurtleff (Democratic Party) ran for re-election to the New Hampshire House of Representatives to represent Merrimack 15. He won in the general election on November 8, 2022.

Shurtleff began serving as speaker of the House in 2018. He previously served as House majority leader and House minority leader.

Shurtleff has served as a Concord At-Large City Councilor. He was co-chair of New Hampshire Veterans for Kerry; member of the New Hampshire Democratic State Committee and the Merrimack County Democratic Executive Committee; and a delegate to the Democratic National Convention.[1]

Biography

Stephen Shurtleff was born in Concord, New Hampshire. Shurtleff graduated from Bishop Brady High School. He served in the U.S. Army for three years. Shurtleff earned an A.A. from the City College of Chicago. His career experience includes working as a supervisory deputy U.S. Marshal. Shurtleff served on the Concord Planning Board, the Concord Heritage Commission, and the Concord City Council.[2]

The signature filing deadline for candidates wishing to run in this election was June 13, 2014. Incumbent Stephen Shurtleff was unopposed in the Democratic primary, while Ben Tasker was unopposed in the Republican primary. Shurtleff and Tasker faced off in the general election.[7] Shurtleff, the House Majority Leader, defeated Tasker in the general election.[8]
