James Headd was a 2017 Republican special election candidate for District Rockingham 4 of the New Hampshire House of Representatives. He ran unsuccessfully for the same seat in 2014.

Headd is a former Republican member of the New Hampshire House of Representatives, representing Rockingham 3 from 2002 to 2012.

Biography

A special election for the position of New Hampshire House of Representatives District Rockingham 4 was called for September 26, 2017. A primary election was held on August 8, 2017. The filing deadline for candidates wishing to run in this election was June 16, 2017.[2]

The seat became vacant on May 6, 2017, after William Polewarczyk (R) died from cancer.[3]

Kari Lerner was unopposed in the Democratic primary. Former state Rep. James Headd defeated former state Rep. James Devine and Anthony Rossignol in the Republican primary. James Jarvis ran as a Libertarian candidate. Lerner defeated Headd and Jarvis in the special election.[4]

Elections for the New Hampshire House of Representatives took place in 2014. A primary election took place on September 9, 2014. The general election was held on November 4, 2014. The signature filing deadline for candidates wishing to run in this election was June 13, 2014. Two candidates were unopposed in the Democratic primary, while nine candidates faced off in the Republican primary.[5] The general election was contested by two Democrats and five Republicans. The Democrats were Charlotte Lister and Stephen D'Angelo. The Republicans participants were William M. Gannon, Jason Osborne, Chris True, incumbent Joseph Hagan, and incumbent James Devine. All five Republicans were victorious over the Democrats in the general election.[6]

On November 4, 2008, Headd won election to the New Hampshire House of Representatives from Rockingham County District 3, which sends nine representatives to the New Hampshire House of Representatives, by finishing with the seventh-highest vote total in the election. Headd received 6,523 votes. The other winning candidates from District 3 were Betsy McKinney (R) with 7,434 votes, Karen Hutchinson (R) with 7,328 votes, Alfred Baldasaro (R) with 7,189 votes, Sherman Packard (R) with 6,642 votes, Clinton Bailey (R) with 6,573 votes, Robert Introne (R) with 6,526 votes, Frank Emiro (R) with 6,051 votes, and Dudley Dumaine (R) with 5,815 votes. The losing candidates in the race were Thomas Kennedy (D) with 5,593 votes, Mary Tetreau (D) with 5,584 votes, Emily Rocheleau (D) with 5,174 votes, David Howard (D) with 5,084 votes, Nancy Horten (D) with 4,877 votes, Tammy Siekmann (D) with 4,868 votes, William Thomas (D) with 4,529 votes, Gary Vermillion (D) with 4,529 votes, and Donald Schwartz (D) with 4,470 votes. Additionally, 103 votes went to "others," who were presumably write-in candidates.[9]
