Ryder is a former Democratic member of the New Hampshire House of Representatives, representing Strafford 6 from 2008 to 2010.

Ryder failed to advance past the November 2, 2010, general election. Ryder advanced past the September 14 primary election. He faced incumbent Roland Hofemann (D), Kenneth Stanley (D), Michael Weeden (D), and Donald Andolina (R) in the November 2 general election.
2008
On November 4, 2008, Ryder finished third for the three-seat Strafford District 6 in New Hampshire receiving 2,891 votes, behind Democrats Roland Hofemann (3,075), and Robert Lewis (2,997), and ahead of others (44).[3]
