Leland DeGrasse
Leland DeGrasse was a justice on the New York Supreme Court, Appellate Division, First Department. He was appointed to the court by former Governor David Paterson in April 2008.[1] DeGrasse was elected to the State Supreme Court, 1st Judicial District in 1988. He retired in 2015.[2]
Education
DeGrasse received his B.A. from St. John's University in 1967 and his J.D. from the Howard University School of Law in 1972.[1]
Career
DeGrasse began his legal career in 1972 as an assistant district attorney for Bronx County. He became a private practice lawyer in 1975 and joined the Harlem Legal Services in 1977 as a staff attorney. He worked as a law secretary to Clifford Scott of the New York State Supreme Court from 1980 to 1985. DeGrasse was then elected to the New York City Civil Court in 1985, where he served until his appointment to the Supreme Court of the State of New York, 1st Judicial District in 1988.[1]
