Willis B. Hunt, Jr. is an Article III federal judge for the United States District Court for the Northern District of Georgia. He joined the court in 1995 after being nominated by President Bill Clinton. He is serving on senior status.[1]

Early life and education

Hunt graduated from Emory University with an Bachelor of Laws degree in 1954 and later graduated from the University of Virginia School of Law with an LL.M. degree in 1990.[1]

Military service

Hunt served in the U.S. Army from 1955 to 1957.[1]

Professional career

Hunt began his legal career as a special agent for the Federal Bureau of Investigation from 1957 to 1959 before becoming an attorney in private practice from 1959 to 1971. Hunt began his judicial career as a superior court judge for the Third Superior Court District from 1971 to 1986. In 1986, he was appointed to the Georgia Supreme Court.[1]

Judicial career

Northern District of Georgia

On the recommendation of U.S. Senator Sam Nunn, Hunt was nominated by President Bill Clinton on January 23, 1995, to a seat vacated by Judge Horace Ward. Hunt was confirmed by the Senate on March 24, 1995, on a majority voice vote and received commission on March 24, 1995.[2] Hunt later assumed senior status on June 30, 2005.[1] Hunt was succeeded in this position by Tim Batten.
