Education
McKinster received his bachelor of science from the University of Southern California in 1968 and his juris doctor from Hastings College of the Law in 1971.[3]
Military service
McKinster completed ROTC military science coursework at Berkeley from 1969 to 1971 and was commissioned in 1971 as a second lieutenant in the U.S. Army Reserve, Field Artillery. For eight years, he was a captain in the 426th Civil Affairs Company in Upland, California. McKinster attended Judge Advocate General's School at the University of Virginia and transferred to the JAG Corps after he completed his legal studies.[3]
Career
McKinster was a deputy district attorney for San Bernardino County from 1972 to 1978 and a supervising deputy district attorney from 1977 to 1978. He then became the chief deputy district attorney until 1984, when he was appointed to the San Bernardino Municipal Court. The next year, he was elevated to the Superior Court, where he served until his appointment to the California Fourth District Court of Appeal.[3][4]
