John Lahtinen was a judge on the New York Supreme Court, Appellate Division, serving the Third Department. He was appointed to this position by Gov. George Pataki on March 6, 2000.[1] He retired at the end of 2016.[2]
Education
Lahtinen earned his undergraduate degree from Colgate University in 1967 and his J.D. from Albany Law School in 1970.[1]
Career
Judge Lahtinen began his legal career in 1971 as a private practice lawyer working in Plattsburgh, NY. He also worked as a law secretary to the late Justice Norman Harvey in the early 1970s. He later became a Clinton County special acting District Attorney and a Plattsburgh special acting City Court Judge. In 1997, he was appointed and elected to the 4th Judicial District of the Supreme Court.[1]

Lahtinen won re-election as a New York Supreme Court 4th Judicial District Justice on November 8th after winning the Republican and Conservative primaries. He earned 23.5% of the vote to defeat John Silvestri in the General election winning one of the three open seats.[4][5][6]
IJEC rating
The Independent Judicial Election Qualification Commissions has rated Lahtinen as Qualified.[7]
