Gene Gomes
Gene M. Gomes was a justice on the Fifth District of the California Courts of Appeal. He was appointed by Governor Gray Davis and took the oath of office on May 31, 2002. He was retained by voters on November 2, 2002.[1] He successfully ran for retention in 2014 to a term that would have expired on January 3, 2027.[2] He passed away on March 6, 2018.[3]
Education
Gomes graduated from Fresno State University in 1969. In 1972, he received his J.D. from the University of Pacific McGeorge School of Law.[4]
Career
Gomes began his legal career as a deputy district attorney for Fresno County from 1972 to 1975. He then became a chief trial deputy district attorney for two years. After this, he went into private practice with the law firm Gomes, Gomes, Fisk and Berman. On October 31, 1980, he became a judge on the municipal court in Fresno County after an appointment by Governor Brown. He was elevated to the Fresno County Superior Court in 1982, where he served until his appointment to the court of appeals.[4]
