Jeffrey Cohen (New York)
Jeffrey A. Cohen was a justice on senior status on the New York Supreme Court, Appellate Division. He left office on December 31, 2020.[1] Cohen was appointed to the court by former Governor David Paterson on December 9, 2010, and served in the Second Department.[2]
Education
Cohen received his B.A. from New York University in 1971 and his J.D.degree from the Rutgers University School of Law in 1975.
Career
Cohen began his legal career in 1976 as a confidential law clerk working on the Westchester County Court. The following year, he became a trial attorney for the Legal Aid Society of Westchester County, where he worked until 1981 and again in 1985. Cohen then helped to found the law firm of Cohen, Timko & Moses LLP, where he worked as a partner through 2006. From 1999 to 2006, he served as an acting judge of the City Courts of Yonkers, White Plaints, Mount Vernon, Peekskill, and New Rochelle. He joined the Westchester County Court bench in 2007. Cohen was then elected to the 9th Judicial District of the New York Supreme Court (Orange County) on November 3, 2009. He took office in 2010 and served in this position until his appointment to the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court later that year.[3][4][5]

Cohen ran for a seat on the Supreme Court of the State of New York, 9th Judicial District.[6] He was nominated to run for this position by the 9th Judicial District's Democratic nominating convention in September 2009.[7][8][9]
