Richard Fybel
Richard Fybel was a judge for Division 3 of the California 4th District Court of Appeal. He assumed office on February 8, 2002. He left office on March 31, 2022.
Governor Gray Davis appointed Fybel to the court and he took office on February 8, 2002.[1] Fybel ran for retention in 2014 and retired on March 31, 2022.[2][3]
Education
Fybel graduated from the University of California - Los Angeles in 1968 and received his J.D. from the University of California - Los Angeles School of Law in 1971.[4]
Career
Fybel was an attorney with the law firm Nossaman, Guthner, Knox & Elliot from 1971 to 1981. He then joined the Los Angeles office of law firm Morrison & Foerster, rising to partner and later director. He was with the firm until his appointment to the Orange County Superior Court in 2000. He served on this court until his appointment to the court of appeals in 2002.[5]

Noteworthy cases
Diocese liable for sexual abuse by priest (2003)
The court ruled that the Milwaukee Archdiocese could be held liable for not fully disclosing the past of a priest convicted of child molestation. After he moved to Orange County and allegedly molested three more boys, a victim sued the Orange and Milwaukee dioceses.
