Henry Scudder
Henry J. Scudder was a justice of the New York Supreme Court, Appellate Division, Fourth Department. Governor Pataki appointed him to this position on November 17, 2006. He joined the Fourth Department of the Appellate Division in 1999. During his tenure on the court, he served as presiding justice.[1]
Education
Scudder graduated from Stetson University in 1966 and from the University of Tennessee Law School in 1969. He then served in the Army National Guard until the early 1970s.[1][2]
Career
Scudder worked as a private practice lawyer in Bath, NY from 1970 to 1981. He began working in general practice with Peter Gledhill and later joined the law firm Scudder, McCarthy and Plaskov as a partner. During this time, he also served as a part-time Assistant District Attorney (1972-1977) and First Assistant District Attorney (1977-1979) for Steuben County.[2] In 1982, he became a Steuben County Surrogate Court judge. He held this position until 1996, when he was elected to the New York Supreme Court 7th Judicial District.[1][3]
Elections
2010
Scudder ran for re-election to the Supreme Court in 2010 and defeated Stephen J. Lynch in the general election.[4][5] Scudder was given a "Highly Qualified" rating by the Independent Judicial Election Qualification Commissions for the 7th District.[6]
