Curtis LeRoy Hansen is an Article III federal judge for the United States District Court for the District of New Mexico. He joined the court in 1992 after being nominated by President George H.W. Bush. He is serving on senior status.[1]

Education

A native of Iowa, Hansen graduated from the University of Iowa in Iowa City with his bachelor's degree in 1956 and later graduated from the University of New Mexico School of Law with his J.D. degree in 1961.[1]

Professional career

After law school, Hansen became a clerk for former Justice Irwin Moise of the New Mexico Supreme Court from 1961 to 1962. In 1962, Hansen entered into private practice work in the State of New Mexico. He worked in private practice until joining the court.[1]

Judicial career

District of New Mexico

Hansen was nominated by President George H.W. Bush on March 20, 1992, to a new judgeship created by 104 Stat. 5089. Hansen was confirmed by the U.S. Senate on September 25, 1992, and received commission on October 2, 1992. Hansen assumed senior status on April 18, 2003.[1] Hansen was succeeded in this position by Judge James O. Browning.
