Francisco Besosa

Francisco Besosa is a federal judge on senior status with the U.S. District Court for the District of Puerto Rico. He joined the court in 2006 after being nominated by President George W. Bush. Prior to joining the court, Besosa was a private practice attorney in Puerto Rico.[1]
Besosa assumed senior status on January 1, 2022.[2][3]
Education
Besosa graduated from Brown University with his bachelor's degree in 1971 and later graduated from Georgetown University Law Center with his J.D. degree in 1979.[1]
Military service
Besosa served in the U.S. Army from 1971 to 1977. He enlisted and attended the United States Officer Candidate School and was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant. He was posted in Detachment R, 500th Military Intelligence Group in Japan. He was later transferred to South Carolina. Besosa earned the Meritorious Service Medal and the rank of Captain and was inducted into the Infantry Officer Candidate School Hall of Fame.[1][4]
Professional career
Besosa was a private practice attorney in Puerto Rico from 1979 to 1983 and 1986 to 2006. From 1983 to 1986, Besosa served in the U.S. Attorney's Office as assistant U.S. attorney with the United States Department of Justice.[1]
Judicial career
District of Puerto Rico (2006-present)
On the recommendation of the Puerto Rican at-large Congressional delegation, Besosa was nominated by President George W. Bush on May 16, 2006, to a seat vacated by Judge Juan Perez-Gimenez as Perez-Gimenez assumed senior status. Besosa was confirmed by the U.S. Senate on September 25, 2006, on a unopposed 87-0-13 vote and received commission on September 27, 2006.[5] He assumed senior status on January 1, 2022.[1]
