William Martini is a federal judge on senior status for the United States District Court for the District of New Jersey. He joined the court in 2002 after being nominated by President George W. Bush. Martini assumed senior status on February 10, 2015.[1]
Education
Born in Passaic, New Jersey, Martini graduated from Villanova University with his bachelor's degree in 1968 and earned his J.D. from the Rutgers University Law School in 1972.[1]

Judicial career
District of New Jersey
Martini was nominated to the United States District Court for the District of New Jersey by President George W. Bush on January 23, 2002, to a seat vacated by John Lifland. Martini was confirmed by the Senate on November 14, 2002, on a majority vote and received commission on November 19, 2002.[2]
Noteworthy cases
"Baddest Lawyer in NJ" convicted: Paul Bergrin trial (2009)
Martini was the presiding judge in the case of Attorney Paul Bergrin. Bergrin was charged with racketeering, witness tampering, and murder. On November 12, 2009, the judge ordered that the once prominent attorney be moved out of solitary confinement and into the general population of the jail at the request of Bergrin's attorneys.[3]
Martini was dismissed from the trial on June 15, 2012, by the Third Circuit Court of Appeals, which concluded Martini had not been acting in an impartial manner.[4]
