William Watkins (Alabama)
William Keith Watkins was a judge on the United States District Court for the Middle District of Alabama. He joined the court in 2005 after being nominated by President George W. Bush (R). Watkins retired from full-time service, assuming senior status, on January 31, 2019. He served as the chief judge from 2011 to 2019.
Early life and education
A native of Pike County, Alabama, Watkins graduated from Auburn University with his bachelor's degree in 1973 and from the University of Alabama School of Law with his J.D. in 1976.[1]

Watkins was nominated to the United States District Court for the Middle District of Alabama by President George W. Bush (R) on September 28, 2005, to a seat vacated by Harold Albritton. The American Bar Association rated Watkins Substantial Majority Qualified, Minority Not Qualified for the nomination. Hearings on Watkins' nomination were held before the Senate Judiciary Committee on November 15, 2005. His nomination was reported by U.S. Sen. Arlen Specter (R-Pa.) on November 17, 2005. Watkins was confirmed on a voice vote of the U.S. Senate on December 21, 2005. He received his commission on December 27, 2005. Watkins retired from full-time service, assuming senior status, on January 31, 2019.
Watkins served as the chief judge of the district court from 2011 to 2019.[1][2][3]
