Gregory Howard Woods is a federal judge of the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York. On May 9, 2013, President Barack Obama nominated Bruce to the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York to fill the vacancy left by Barbara Jones. Woods was confirmed by the Senate on November 4, 2013.[1]

Education

Woods earned his B.A., graduating magna cum laude, from Williams College in 1991. He went on to earn his J.D. from Yale Law in 1995.[2]

On May 9, 2013, President Barack Obama nominated Gregory Howard Woods to the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York to fill the vacancy left by Barbara Jones.[1] Obama commented on the nominations, stating:

“ I am confident they will serve the American people with integrity and a steadfast commitment to justice.[2][3] ”

Woods was rated Majority Qualified, Minority Well Qualified by the American Bar Association. He had a hearing before the Senate Judiciary Committee on July 10, 2013. You can find his Committee Questionnaire available here and his Questions for the Record available here.[4]

On November 4, 2013, Gregory Howard Woods was confirmed by the U.S. Senate on a voice vote. Woods replaces the vacancy that was created by the retirement of Barbara Jones. Senator Chuck Schumer praised Woods' confirmation by saying:

“ Mr. Woods’s experience and successful legal career in both the public and private sectors make it clear that he will be an excellent judge... Our federal bench in America should resemble the people it serves and Mr. Woods embodies the three criteria that I look for in a federal judge: excellence, moderation and diversity. Today, I am pleased to announce the confirmation of Mr. Woods as judge for the Southern District Court of New York and I have every confidence that he will serve his jurisdiction well.[5][3] ”
