Stanley Chesler is a federal judge on senior status for the United States District Court for the District of New Jersey. He joined the court in 2002 after being nominated by President George W. Bush.[1] Chesler assumed senior status on June 15, 2015.[2]

Education

Chesler graduated from Harpur College with his bachelor's degree in 1968 and later from St. Johns University School of Law with his J.D. degree in 1974.[1]

Professional career

Chesler began his legal career as an assistant district attorney for the New York City District Attorney's Office from 1974 to 1980. Chesler joined the U.S. Attorney's Office as a special attorney in the Newark Organized Crime Strike Force. Chesler worked on prosecuting organized crimes and multiple offenders in cases tried by the U.S. Department of Justice in the federal courts of New Jersey from 1980 to 1986 before spending a year as a assistant U.S. attorney for the U.S. Attorney's Office for the District of New Jersey until 1987.[1]

Judicial career

District of New Jersey

Chesler was nominated to the United States District Court for the District of New Jersey by President George W. Bush on January 23, 2002, to a seat vacated by Judge Anne Thompson as Thompson assumed senior status. Chesler was confirmed by the U.S. Senate on November 14, 2002, on a majority vote and received commission on December 4, 2002.[3][4] Chesler transitioned to senior status on June 15, 2015.[2]

District of New Jersey, magistrate

Chesler began his federal judicial career as a magistrate judge for the United States District Court for the District of New Jersey in 1987. Chesler was appointed to consecutive term in 1995.[1]
