Alan Kay was a recalled federal magistrate judge for the United States District Court for the District of Columbia. He was first appointed to this position in September of 1991. He retired in 2016 and was recalled to federal service on January 3, 2017.[1] He retired from the court in January 2019.[2]

Early life and education

Kay earned his B.A. from George Washington University in 1957 and his J.D. from its National Law Center in 1959.[1]

Career

Kay began his legal career as a law clerk for Judge Alexander Holtzoff and Judge William B. Jones, both of the United States District Court for the District of Columbia. Next, he worked with the Public Defender Service, then the U.S. Attorney's Office in the District of Columbia. Kay worked in private practice from 1967 to 1991.[1]
