George Clinton Sweeney
George Clinton Sweeney (1895-1966) was a federal judge on the United States District Court for the District of Massachusetts. He joined the court in 1935 after an appointment from Franklin Delano Roosevelt. At the time of his appointment, Sweeney was an Assistant attorney general of the U.S.. From 1948 to 1965, he was the chief judge. On September 30, 1966, he assumed senior status and continued to serve in this capacity until his death on November 5, 1966.[1]

Judicial nominations and appointments
District of Massachusetts
He was nominated by President Franklin Delano Roosevelt on August 20, 1935 to replace James Arnold Lowell. He was confirmed by the Senate on August 21st, and received commission on August 24th. From 1948 to 1965, he was the chief judge. On September 30, 1966, he assumed senior status and continued to serve in this capacity until his death on November 5, 1966.[1]
