This page is about a former federal court. For a list of active courts, see: United States federal courts.

The United States Circuit Court for the Western District of Virginia was established on March 3, 1837. From 1864 to 1871, following the separation of West Virginia from the rest of the state, what remained as Virginia was reunited under one judicial district. In 1871, that united district was divided again into Eastern and Western judicial districts, and their respective Eastern and Western circuit courts. These were then abolished with the rest of the circuit court system on March 3, 1911.[1]
