Alan Eugene Norris is a federal judge on senior status with the United States Court of Appeals for the 6th Circuit. He joined the court in 1986 after being nominated by President Ronald Reagan.[1]
Early life and education
A native of Columbus, Ohio, Norris graduated from Otterbein College with his bachelor's degree in 1957, from New York University School of Law with his LL.B. in 1960, and from the University of Virginia School of Law with his LL.M. in 1986.[1]

Norris was nominated to the United States Court of Appeals for the 6th Circuit by President Ronald Reagan on April 22, 1986, to a seat vacated by Judge Leroy Contie. Hearings on Norris' nomination were held before the United States Senate Committee on the Judiciary on May 14, 1986, and his nomination was reported by U.S. Sen. Strom Thurmond (R-S.C.) on June 5, 1986. Norris was confirmed on a voice vote of the U.S. Senate on June 6, 1986, and he received his commission on July 1, 1986. Norris assumed senior status on July 1, 2001.[1][2] He was succeeded in this position by Judge Deborah Cook.
