John O. Colvin
John O. Colvin was a federal judge on the United States Tax Court. He joined the court in 1988 after a nomination from President Ronald Reagan. His term ended in 2003 and he was reappointed on August 12, 2004, by President George W. Bush. He served as chief judge from June 1, 2006 to June 1, 2012.[1][2] He also served as chief judge in an interim period from March 8, 2013, to August 6, 2013.[2] Colvin assumed senior status in 2016. His service ended on March 11, 2024, upon his death.[3]
Education
Colvin earned his A.B. in 1968 at the University of Missouri and his J.D. from the same school three years later. He also earned an LL.M. in Taxation from Georgetown University Law Center in 1978.[2]

Tax Court
John O. Colvin was nominated to the United States Tax Court by President Ronald Reagan and was confirmed by the U.S. Senate. Colvin joined the court on September 1, 1988. His term ended in 2003 and he was reappointed on August 12, 2004, by President George W. Bush. He served as chief judge from June 1, 2006 to June 1, 2012, and March 8, 2013 to August 6, 2013.[2]
