Richard Owen was a federal judge on the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York. He joined the court in 1973 after being nominated by President Richard Nixon (R). Owen transitioned to senior status on September 30, 1989. His service ended when he died November 20, 2015.[1]

Education

Owen graduated from Dartmouth College with his bachelor's degree in 1945 and graduated from Harvard Law School with his LL.B degree in 1950.[1]

Owen served in the U.S. Army Air Corps from 1942 to 1945.[1]

Judicial career

Southern District of New York

Owen was nominated by Richard M. Nixon (R) on November 15, 1973, to a seat vacated by Judge Edward McLean. Owen was confirmed by the U.S. Senate on December 13, 1973, and received commission on December 19, 1973. Owen assumed senior status on September 30, 1989. His service ended November 20, 2015, when he died.[1]
